Randomness at its best

You know what real randomness is?

Going to a recruitment event, and coming home with a Nintendo Wii.
I guess those 1 1/2 hours were worth it after all...

Yet another website, and another!

Yes, it’s true, I’ve set up yet another two website. Do I feel ashamed? Actually, no. Is that bad? Maybe…

This time it’s all about origami.

The first one is on the videos I’ve made so far, plus pictures and stuff like that. Check it out at http://www.happyfolding.com - subtle name, isn’t it? Well, at least it doesn’t say origami in it!

What's wrong with MacOS X?

As posted earlier, I got a MacBook at work and have been trying it out for some time now. Overall I find it very nice and convenient, although the user interface does require some getting used to. However, some of the details can be very frustrating.

Origami Convention - The best video clips are here

This weekend I was at the 40th Anniversary BOS Convention in Cambridge. Let me tell you - it was great!

You can see photos of some models that were displayed, a video including short interviews with reknown origamiists, and Rikki Donachie folding a Kawasaki rose one-handed.

I’ve got more video material, but I’m not sure whether I’ll make more videos.

User Locations

After I figured out how to make some nice RSS feeds for www.exetermcr.com (not sure whether they’re really working yet), I decided to add a map that shows where our MCR members come from. One of the students had addressed me as to whether we could do somethink like that. And we certainly can: http://www.exetermcr.com/map/user

Let’s see how many people are going to use it… I just sent out an email asking people to specify their origin.

Updating exetermcr.com

And again I've upated www.exetermcr.com (now running Drupal 5.2). I'm actually thinking about changing the theme a bit, but don't a) have the time and b) don't have any great big ideas for something new right now anyways.

I did add the birthdays module, though, which I think is great fun. Check it out at www.exetermcr.com/birthdays.

Redesigning WearFair.co.uk

Recently I did some webdesign for WearFair.

Some of the highlights:

  • An uncluttered frontpage and a clear navigation. Really important, I think.
  • Graphical headers. With fake transparency. Yey!
  • A search function. Ok, I only convinced them they should implement one, and then added it to the design.
  • Random featured products. Who want’s to see the same over and over again?
  • ‘Scroll’ effect on featured products - they are displayed bigger when your mouse hovers over them, and more info is displayed.

The Beast

Folded from a 4m x 40cm sheet of paper, this Wu Eastern Dragon is as close to a beast as it gets. Enjoy 2 hours of folding squeezed into 2 minutes accompanied by Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, Scherzo: Pizzicato ostinato.

Here's what I've been up to:

a small scorpion (just showing off the finished model)
a kangaroo designed by Peter Engel (Part 1 and Part 2)
"Blütenkreisel" designed by Carmen Sprung (octagon from a square and folding instructions)
